For your patio, fill pots with:
– Vinca

– Milkweed for the butterflies

Don’t forget to fertilize!

Feed your hanging baskets and container pots regularly as watering washes away nutrients faster than in the landscape. If you missed a second application of fertilizer on your lawn in June, you can do so now just remember to water it in. Ask one of our Nursery Professionals for the right slow release fertilizer for your lawn.

Watch for Insects

Walk your landscape and examine plants and trees for white flies, spider mites, tent caterpillars, web worms and aphids. Chinch bugs are coming and can damage your St. Augustine grass. Look for dry, burned looking patches in the hottest parts of the lawn. Treat with insecticide before further damage.

Mow high, resist over-watering

Cut grass at the highest setting during the heat season. Water deeply and less often. A good indicator it’s time to water is when you can see your footprints in the grass.

A Reminder about pruning

For trees and shrubs, remove damaged or diseased limbs as soon as possible. For all other tree pruning, wait until January or February. Continue to dead-head your roses as the blooms are spent. In early August, prune your roses (other than climbers) back by one third for a strong Fall bloom.

  • Keep rose bushes cleaned up and fed to prevent black spot and insect problems.
  • Pick flowers frequently – you’ll love them in vases and the plant will reward you with more blooms.
  • Give plenty of water and mulch to leafy garden plants such as coleus, caladiums and elephant ears.
  • Feed ALL of your landscape regularly.
  • Protect pets and help wildlife with extra water and a shady spot from the heat.
  • Take advantage of the cooler times of the day and enjoy your Summer garden as often as you can.
